Blahsy day perfection

Blahsy day perfection
I love this outfit but the recreation is less than perfect. What drew me to it was the silky blazer over the slightly chunky sweater. It's something I don't know that I would have thought to try. Of course the skinnier you are, the less that sort of thing tends to matter. Any woman of size knows that the blousy arms of the sweater would bunch up under the non-stretchy blazer and bind on your upper arms every time you bent them. It hurts. So we tend to choose a filmier top under a blazer just for comforts sake. However, that can be a little chilly. I guess my point is, just because conventional wisdom says something is so, sometimes breaking the tried and true rules yields a new discovery for oneself. Sometimes something that shouldn't work, does; even in the fashion world.

First Sunny day of 2 weeks
Gawd, the weather has been so gloomy for so long. The sun finally came out today and I just had to do a sunshiny set :)

Early 80's retro

Early 80's retro
I was thinking more 70s, but as the set grew, I realized it reminded me of my own early childhood pictures from the photo albums. This is clearly early 80's.

Dream Prom

Dream Prom
This is actually my second prom set. Flash locked up on me last night and I couldn't save the set. But this turned out much better than that one so I'm not mad. Anyway, I had a whole thing written up about my prom that I can't quite remember but what it amounted to is that I'm 29 years old now and I finally "get" the prom. We were all wrong-headed about the event in high school because we all took ourselves too seriously and we took the prom wah-haaaaay too seriously. So we all arrived overworked, overdressed and over-stressed. Guys, if you're anything like I was, all I can say is, relax! It's not that serious! It's a bunch of teenagers getting together to party, that's it! A legal, adult-supervised party, sure, but still...a party! Dance and have fun and don't be afraid to sparkle and let your hair down! I'm not going to say it's the best time of your life, but I will say...it is what you MAKE it to be, so make it amazing!

Keds Summer Fun

Keds Summer Fun
When I think about Keds, I'm brought back to my childhood visiting Wisconsin, going to the parades and the festivals, the beach and running after the ice cream truck. A time when every day was just about having fun. And I'm not just saying that because that's how they market themselves, I'm saying that because it's the God's honest truth. Keds were and are easy to slip on, comfortable for running around and chasing that next summer delight and not worrying about whether you're getting peach juice down the front of your shirt because you're just enjoying the peach so much. Under the best circumstances, Keds take away worry and doubt and all that's left is childlike innocence and fun.

Maybe a wedding

Maybe a wedding
I don't think about this very often, and I'm going to be a basket-case if I ever do have to plan a wedding because I'm a fussbudget who doesn't care for the look of a typical wedding. ANYWAY...hopefully something like this will be possible for me. I like the idea of satin and champagne. I want to be sexy and elegant as a bride. I'm not the virginal princess type and I'd prefer not to pretend to be. This set, btw is not strictly wedding as you may note. I'd skip the tiara for a formal event, but other than that, I think everything is appropriate for any formal evening, which is really what I'm looking for. At my wedding, it isn't about me. It's about US, me, my husband, my family and friends. Like I said, I'm going to be a hell bride because every step of the way I'm going to run into cliches that drive me up the wall and I'm going to lash out at perfectly decent people who's whole job is wedding stuff and I will probably want to scratch out the eyes of every one of them. *sighs* oh well lol.

Cafe at Night

Cafe at Night
I'm not a huge art lover. I like it, I appreciate the many varied ways we decorate our world, but I've never looked at a Warhol or virtually any piece of modern art without a degree of "so what?" when forming an opinion. I really haven't seen any greater purpose to fine art any more than any other kind of art such as might be used for advertisements or comic books. Cafe at Night though...a wildly popular piece and maybe it's just my naivety regarding the art world, but it makes me believe in the magic possible through art. There's so much of it around us, so much that goes unappreciated and unrecognized and maybe they don't deserve recognition and maybe most people don't see more in this than a cafe at night...I'm not entirely sure I do, but I think...I THINK....this piece speaks to me. I can feel the air in this painting, I can feel the love the artist has for this place, the warmest glow generating right from the center and then cooling off as you reach the edges of the work. As I grew up and started seeing this painting everywhere, from hospital bathrooms to hotel lobbies, I grew weary of it, rolling my eyes at the mediocre and cliched choices of the decorator...but still there's something about it that makes me feel so melancholy and when it's just me and this painting alone without interruption from the rest of the world, it means something to me, it's mine and I love it and that's why I still must believe in the potential magic of paint and canvas.
